Athletes, musicians and organisations we work with
In good company
From grassroots to the world stage. We keep our clients' details private, so here is the kind of people and organisations we work with, and how we help.
UFC and international fighters
Combat sports
Professional MMA fighters training out of New Zealand gyms and fighting on international cards, with purses, bonuses and sponsors in more than one country.
Recording artists on tour
Music
New Zealand artists touring Australia and further afield, with performance fees, promoter settlements and overseas withholding to manage.
Coaches and fighter managers
Coaching
Experienced coaches and former champions who look after a stable of fighters, and need their own finances in shape too.
Fight gyms and clubs
Grassroots
Local gyms and clubs developing the next generation of athletes in the Eastern Bay of Plenty and beyond.
National sports associations
Organisations
Associations that run competition and pathways for athletes across New Zealand.
Performance academies
Youth development
Academies building the next wave of talent. Calc is a founding partner of a new performance football academy in the Eastern Bay.
Two examples, names withheld
Tax taken at the top rate, and a costly assumption
The situation. A New Zealand artist toured Australia with a major promoter. Tax was being withheld at the highest rate because the right Australian registrations weren't in place. The team assumed the tax would simply come back at the New Zealand year end.
What we did. We explained why that assumption doesn't hold, set out the options, and started the Australian registrations so the next run of shows is set up properly from the start.
Every fight planned before it happens
The situation. A fighter earning purses, bonuses and sponsorship across several countries, with fights booked at short notice and income arriving in lumps.
What we do. A check-in before and after every fight, the tax rules checked for each country, every payment recorded, and a quarterly review that plans around the next fights.
